Nuclear power remains popular in Finland

As many as 66 % of respondents have a positive opinion of nuclear power, while only 8 % view it negatively, according to a survey by Verian, commissioned by Finnish Energy. The data were collected via a panel survey in April 2026, 1045 respondents.

Support for nuclear power has been strong for multiple years in Finland. Among respondents, 31 % had fully positive opinion on nuclear power and 35 % had mainly positive opinion. 2 % of respondents had fully negative opinion and 6 % had mainly negative opinion. Among 23 % of respondents, views were in between—both positive and negative.

Young people’s attitudes toward nuclear power had strengthened compared to last year. Among respondents under 25, 59 % viewed nuclear power positively, and none viewed it negatively.

Nuclear energy provides low-carbon, stable, and predictable power and helps keep electricity prices at a reasonable level. In addition to electricity, nuclear energy could in the future also be used to produce heat for district heating networks. A diverse energy mix is one of Finland’s strengths.
