Skilled workforce
The world's most important industry needs skilled professionals. The foundation of Finnish Energy's advocacy is to ensure that inspiring basic education, well-targeted and flexible vocational training, and high-quality higher education support the availability of personnel in the sector.
The energy sector is a vast and diverse industry that forms the backbone of various societal functions and the economy. Its importance has increased further due to the challenges of climate change and energy security. The sector’s activities cover the entire country, providing job opportunities nationwide—now and in the future. Companies in the sector produce, procure, transmit, and sell electricity, gas, district heating, and district cooling, as well as offer related services. The rapidly advancing energy transition strongly impacts the skill needs of companies, requiring new professionals and new types of expertise.
Finnish Energy supports its member companies through educational policy advocacy. We anticipate future changes in skills, communicate these changes, and influence policymakers, officials and education providers.
The foundation of our advocacy is to ensure that inspiring basic education, well-targeted and flexible vocational training, and high-quality higher education support the availability of a skilled workforce in the energy sector. The goals of developing the education system should include a high-quality educational pathway, deepening cooperation between educational institutions and companies, responding to regional and rapidly changing labour needs, and extending careers.
