Equality
To succeed in the energy transition and climate change mitigation, we need the best talents in the field. Transitioning to a new, clean, and intelligent energy system requires diverse expertise. This means that different genders should be more evenly represented in the sector so that we do not waste potential.
The world’s most important industry needs all talents
Currently, the proportion of women in Finnish energy companies is only about 24%. According to a survey conducted by the Finnish Energy in spring 2020, over 70% of energy companies have already taken actions to promote gender equality. The most common measures included equality plans, recruitment, pay, and workplace practices.
Finnish Energy is committed to promoting the advancement of women in all staff groups, including executive management. We are part of the international Equal by 30 campaign, which brings together energy companies and public sector entities to work on gender equality.
Finnish Energy is committed to increasing the proportion of women in the sector by 2030 at all levels because:
- Climate change and the energy transition need the best experts
- Research shows that companies with gender balance are more successful and efficient
We are committed to influencing the increase of women, particularly in technical fields of study in higher education, and encouraging girls to choose more mathematical and scientific subjects. There are many paths to the energy sector, and we encourage people with diverse backgrounds to apply for jobs in the field.
